Tapestries are great room decorations. They bring color and life to
a not so interesting room. You can cover tables with them, put them in
frames to hang on the wall, or put them under glass for a table.

Multi-pattern t shirts are definitely the most interesting to me. They
have two designs on them. Many times unique color blending and
interesting unintended patterns arise in the multi-pattern shirts. They
will definitely make you stand out in a crowd.

Tie Dyes are the perfect typical Tie Dye tee-shirt. What is on the front
is also on the back. They can be very intricate in design and show
the eye catching blends of symmetry and blending colors.

single pattern designs but can be made as multi-pattern by simply
requesting any pattern on any style cotton shirt via email.

I make Tie Dye shirts and tapestries on 100% cotton with Procion MX dyes. Each Tie Dye is unique in its own nature. Trying to create an exact copy of a Tie Dye does not work out very often. There will always be slight differences in the colors and/or the patterns. Creating Tie Dyes in bulk (2 or more) at the same time offers the best chance of identical color and pattern replication.
Tie Dyes created for sale, you will notice, are all different even if the patterns are the same. So when you buy a Tie Dye from Phat Dyes, rest assured that you will have the only one like it. Many Tie Dyes look similar, but after close examination you will notice they are unique.

Tie Dye Swirls Learn how to make Tie Dye swirl patterns. There are 3 patterns I
show here. The first is the standard swirl pattern with the rainbow
colors. The second is another swirl with black lines spiraling outward.
The third pattern is a spider swirl. This pattern also uses the rainbow
pattern. At the end of the video I show you some more examples of
different types of swirls. The chapter ends by showing you numerous
examples of modified swirl patterns.

Crinkles In this video you will learn how to create crinkle folds for a
Tie Dye. I show you techniques for creating the folds, holding them
together, and then describes how to layer colors. The section ends by
showing you examples of using crinkle folds as filler. Tie Dye
Stripes I show you how to create a symmetrical diagonal stripe on a shirt.
Then I show you how to created the fanfolds and secure them with the
string. Then I show you how to color the folded cotton into a brightly
colored Tie Dye. This section ends with more examples of straight line
Tie Dye patterns.

Wavy Lines I show you how to create a wavy line Tie Dye pattern. I walk you
through creating the pattern, gathering the folds and securing them.
Then I demonstrate how to apply the dye using unique layering patterns.

Clovers In this second to last chapter you will learn how to create a clover
design on the front of the shirt. Then create a stripe or v pattern on
the back of the shirt.

the front of a shirt and a heart on the back. I also show you how to use
crinkles as filler to finish the pattern. These techniques teach you the
details of manipulating the cotton so there is twice as much room to
create Tie Dye patterns.

is an easy and enjoyable thing to do. You can have lots of fun being creative and getting a surprise when it’s over. You could say making Tie Dyes is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.
Using the right dye is essential when making Tie Dyes. Why would you spend your money and time making Tie Dyes when they are going to fade after the first wash? Procion MX is the standard dye to use so your colors are bright and permanent.
You don’t need to know how to make Tie Dyes to have fun making them. Tie Dyes can be anything from totally random and blotchy to precise and beautiful. I like to say that if you’re happy about it, so is the Tie Dye.
The overall process is simple: choose the colors you want to use, mix them up, and prepare the 100% cotton with the chemical Soda Ash. Then fold the cotton into some pattern and secure it, so it won’t fall apart if you move it. Then apply the dyes in the order your want, wait a few hours if you have time. This helps the dyes bond to the cotton making the colors brighter. Then wash the new Tie Dye a couple times and you’re done! Walla, you’ve made your own Tie Dye.
You can buy Tie Dye kits that have many of the tools and chemicals you’ll need. The kits can range in size from a few shirts to a couple hundred shirts that can be dyed. Many times not only will you get all the dyes and chemicals you need, but also some of the main tools you can use. Squirt bottles, gloves, dust masks, and rubber bands. The tools that come with the kits are to get you started and work fine if you’re not going to be too critical of the outcome. If you’re an experienced Tie Dye maker or as you progress in your skills, you may find the squirt bottles and rubber bands aren’t cutting it for you. The tools used to apply the dyes and hold the cotton together can be changed to get different outcomes. But I must include that just changing the tools wont change the outcome. The different tools enable you to color and hold the cotton differently.
